Meet The Counselors & Staff

Sharon Damiano, Happy Day Camp Director & Manager

Sharon comes to us as a sports and recreation enthusiast. Sharon has been with Chartwell Family Oasis since 2009. She started as the Swim Program Director and after several successful seasons, she became General Manager. As a Graduate of Rowan University, Sharon received her Bachelors Degree in Health and Exercise Science, all while playing 4 years of collegiate Softball. Her love for sports is what brought her to continue her career in Health and Physical Education. Sharon has 14 years teaching experience and over 15 years coaching sports teams.

After college, Sharon worked for various sport camps and directed swim facilities. She has a passion and a gift for instructing and directing Swim Lessons for over 20 years. As an Aquatic Director, Sharon knows how important water safety is and she continuously looks for ways to better our facility to maintain a highly skilled Aquatic Program.

Currently, Sharon has brought all of her skill sets to manage Happy Day Camp. Sharon’s love for learning and developing is what motivates her to bring opportunities to today’s youth while offering fun activities to keep the children active, developing social life skills and learning.

Marianna Crandall, Director of Arts & Crafts

Hi, my name is Marianna Crandall, and I will be the science and arts and crafts director this summer.  I graduated from The College of New Jersey in Physics and Education, and then received my Masters of Science In Education from Temple University. I love to bake, craft, and quilt. This is my first year at Chartwell, and I am so excited to be apart of the team.  Chartwell is such a welcoming place where the counselors and staff work so hard to ensure that the campers have lots of fun in a supportive safe environment. I am a high school physics teacher, and I really love the idea of incorporating art into science and technology.  I hope to incorporate lots of fun engineering challenges such as egg drops, zip lines, and building  cardboard boats where the campers can foster team-building, creativity, and leadership skills.  We will also be using chemical reactions to explore the intersection of color and art. I am so excited to be a part of the Chartwell staff!

Gavin Sorrentino, Assistant Manager & Head Lifeguard

What do I like about Chartwell?
Ever since I was a kid and until now, I always have had a great time being at Chartwell! I am able to meet new kids, members, and other employees. Chartwell has a great environment and is always a good time!

What do I plan on doing later in life?
After this summer ends, I will be attending University of Delaware! I plan on majoring in medical diagnostics (pre-pa track) to hopefully later become a physician assistant in the emergency department of hospitals!

Kendall Lafferty, Camp Counselor

My name is Kendall Lafferty, I currently a student-athlete at Ramapo College of New Jersey as a part of the softball team. I am a communications major, with a minor in environmental studies, and I am interested in pursuing a career in the entertainment field. What I like most about Happy Day Camp is the ability for the kids to create friendships with not only their other campers, but their counselors as well. This camp also allows the kids to engage in outdoor activities all day long, without the use of technology, allowing the kids to develop important social skills that may have been lost due to the pandemic.
